Step-Panther Reveal New Single, Album Preview Shows

13 August 2014 | 10:56 am | Staff Writer

The stalwart Sydney act will play three shows over the next month to pre-celebrate their second album

Sydney-bred indie heroes Step-Panther have upped the pre-album-release ante once more with the revelation of It Came From The Heart, yet another new track from their forthcoming sophomore studio full-length Strange But Nice, as well as announcing a handful of album-preview shows this month and next.

With Strange But Nice’s release imminent – it’s out September 19 on HUB, via Inerita – the single drop and run of shows prove excellently timed for thirsty fans to get their fill of sweet Step-Panther goodness, led by both previous single Nowhere and the tasty new cut.

"It's partially serious and sad, and also a fun nod to sci-fi and monster movies from the 1950s and 1960s,” frontman Steve Bourke said of It Came From The Heart. “I guess that’s how the person in the song deals with their emotions, by turning something like 'love gone wrong' into a monster from a movie and making it feel a little less real. It was really fun to write, I tried to make the start of each verse sound like a title to one of those films - It Came From The Forest!!, It Came Out Of The Swamp!!. The only line that doesn’t follow that rule is in the second verse I Don’t Blame You For Leaving, which could maybe be the title of a romantic western instead?"

Strange But Nice will be Step-Panther’s first release for Sydney-based taste-guardians HUB, and shepherds in a changed line-up, with original bassist José on a break in the UK – he was replaced by Sean McGinty on the record, but live duties will be handled by Zach Stephenson of Wollongong-based buzz band Hockey Dad.

Step-Panther’s album-preview shows go down on Thursday, August 28, at The Forresters, in Sydney (with Psychlops Eyepatch and Start The Boats); Wednesday, September 10, at Brisbane’s The Brightside, for BIGSOUND; and Friday, September 12, at the Gold Coast’s Elsewhere (with Wax Witches and White Lodge).
