Star-studded Punk Doco & 'Deadly Game Show' Featuring Aus Musos Lead SBS’s 2020 Slate

The streaming wars are well underway in Australia, but it hasn’t put a damper on the content SBS will be rolling out in 2020, with the broadcaster revealing a stack of forthcoming content.

Among the new and returning content is multi-part docu-series Punk, which will air in May on SBS Viceland and explore the history of punk music via rare and unseen photos and video alongside interviews with Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, Blondie, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and more.

Also expected in early 2020 is NITV’s Faboriginal, a “deadly arts game show” hosted by Steven Oliver that will feature “trivia, facts, good old yarning, and laughs” with well-known Indigenous comedians, actors, sporting personalities and musicians appearing across its eight episodes.

Earlier this month, SBS announced that Vanessa Amorosi and Casey Donovan would be the first two contestants for Eurovision - Australia Decides, and it has now revealed the next two performs for the series, rising First Nations artist Mitch Tambo and singers-songwriter and actor iOTA.

“No other media organisation explores and reflects modern Australia like SBS, telling stories otherwise untold and giving a voice to those often unheard,” SBS Managing Director James Taylor said.

“In 2020, we will continue to lead the way in helping all Australians better understand the benefits and opportunities of a more inclusive society through our boldest and most original offering yet – world-class content along with vital services that go the core of what we stand for as an organisation, and who we are as a nation today.”

Meanwhile, US favourites such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Handmaid’s Tale will also return to SBS in 2020.
