Ladyhawke, Greenthief, Monster Truck, Black Orchid Empire and more join together for a good cause
Independent Melbourne-based label YakMusic Records is doing its bit for humanity with the release of digital fundraising compilation Songs For Blake – Embracing Autism on iTunes and Bandcamp.
After his two-year-old son Blake was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in February last year, Mark Davis began approaching artists from Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, and the UK to ask them to contribute to an album to raise funds for Blake's ongoing treatment – and came away with positive responses from acts such as LA-based Kiwi Ladyhawke, Melburnian acts Greenthief, Sons Of Rico, Woodlock and The Dead Elected, and UK alt rock stalwarts Black Orchid Empire.
A small percentage of proceeds from the double-disc release will be donated annually to “a number of handpicked Australian organisations” around the world, a statement said.
Songs For Blake is available here and here, and if autism awareness is a cause close to your heart, you can follow the album's social media content on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Check the album's website for more information, including the full list of contributing artists.
