Masked metal band Slipknot have revealed they have begun the early stages of preparing new music.

Speaking to Billboard recently, drummer Joey Jordison discussed tentative details of new material. The future of Slipknot has been unclear since the tragic passing of long-time bass player Paul Gray earlier in the year.

Jordison talking to Billboard’s Gary Graff had the following to say about recent musical developments.

"It's already in motion…It's definitely exciting. It's a little emotional, of course, but I think it's going to be really, really cool and I think it's gonna be a really, really great record because everyone's really involved in the process,” he said.

In regards to the recruitment of a new bass player, Jordison said Slipknot would add a new bassist purely for recording and playing duties but will remain an eight piece while performing live.

“We’ll have a bass player that's right next to me, to the right behind the stage, to lock in with me. But there's no one right now who will go on stage."
