Release to mark tenth anniversary of king of country's passing

The tenth anniversary of the passing of Australia's king of country music, Slim Dusty, will this year be marked by two commemorative editions.

One of Australian music true national treasures, the CD and DVD editions of The Very Best Of Slim Dusty, which contain some of his best known tracks and biggest hits, will be packaged together for the first time, for a limited period.

Most excitingly though, a new compilation of autobiographical tracks written and sung by Slim himself will be released under the title The Song Of Noisy Dan. The collection of tracks vary from tales of his childhood through to the lessons learnt during his many years of touring remote Australia.

The title references his father, Dave Kirkpatrick, of whom Dusty said in 1996, “had a loud voice, an Irish Temper and an awe–inspiring command of swear words, which was always delivered at top volume.

“I was told he was the life of the party especially when he was away from [Dusty's mother] Mary. He would play his fiddle, sing his parody songs and was known to recite Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson poems out loud. It was no wonder he was known around town as Noisy Dan.”

Both releases will be available from Friday 16 August, just over a month before the tenth anniversary of his death on Thursday 19 September.
