Broads ProfileEmbrace the indie-noir because Melbourne's Broads are back this week with the first single from their upcoming album and it is premiering today on theMusic.com.au.
Inspired by a Sylvia Plath poem of the same name, Mirror reflects on humanity's hunger for self-affirmation via social media weaving the saccharine vocals of frontwomen Kelly Day and Jane Hendry through folky-pop melodies to delve into the false realities of the twenty-first century.
"These days, we carry our mirrors with us all the time, unable to escape our own reflections on Instagram and the like," Day said reflecting on the song.
"When I wrote the song I thought, 'What kind of personality would someone's phone have?' It would be a syrupy, false friend who would always try to convince you that they were your one true ally. So I wrote this sweet sounding pop song from that perspective, which then breaks apart into chaos towards the end, as all false realities do."
Broads are set to launch the single at The Curtin in Melbourne later this month.
