More Silverchair More Silverchair

Even if Molly Meldrum hadn't crashed Samuel Johnson's Gold Logie acceptance speech, last night's Logie Awards wouldn't have been shy on notable moments.

From Casey Donovan singing David Bowie's Heroes over the In Memoriam reel to Kerri-Anne Kennerley's induction into the Logie Hall Of Fame, it was, for several reasons, a night to remember.

But, as rugby league identity and TV personality Matty Johns could tell you, it's not always for the best of reasons. Take, for example, his interaction with Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies and his wife (and Real Housewives Of Melbourne star) Jackie.

As News Corp reports, Johns appeared on Triple M's The Grill Team program this morning to recount some of his experiences from the night before, when he brought up seeing and bonding with Gillies — both share a history in Newcastle — before things went a bit pear-shaped.

"I tell you something weird last night, I saw Ben Gillies," Johns said. "I saw him last night and I said, 'Yew! How you going, brother?' That’s what we do in Newcastle.

"We were kissing each other's arse there for a while and then I started singing Silverchair songs. His wife, Jackie, said, 'Oh, Matty, he doesn’t like that,' and I thought, 'Nah, bullshit.' So I just kept singing all my favourite Silverchair songs."

"He goes, 'Matty, I’m so embarrassed by what you’re doing, I’m going to have to leave,'" Johns continued. "I thought he was joking but he left. He left! He went to bed."

Gillies made headlines back in March after suing a gym at which he suffered a serious injury, putting him at risk of never being able to tour again.

The awkward interaction didn't sour Johns' Logies experience, however; he told The Grill Team that he went on to drink the night away with Peta Credlin, the ex-chief of staff for former prime minister Tony Abbott.

Christ, the Logies are wild.

update:

Ben Gillies has responded to the alleged incident, insisting that Johns "stitched" him up.

"U singin' S'chair songs didn't bother me at all… because U do it every time I see ya," the drummer tweeted earlier today.
