Melbourne up-and-comers screensaver have just dropped their latest single, the synth-punk banger Drainer, and a string of accompanying tour dates across Australia.

Their tour – starting on Saturday, 21 October, in Melbourne – and new track arrives in support of the band’s upcoming second album, Decent Shapes. You can find all the tour dates below.

The album will be released via Poison City Records and Upset The Rhythm (distributing the album in the UK and Europe) on Friday, 20 October. Pre-order the album here.

Drainer follows the previously-released single, The Guilt. Here’s what Kill Your Stereo had to say about the song last month: “Summoning the dance and groove and intensity of legends of the genre, including Gang Of Four and The B-52’s, screensaver bring back the best of post-punk while sounding totally new.”

The latest number from the Melbourne post-punk outfit is dominated by commanding synths and a relentless pace, offering up the slightly unhinged vocals of singer and synth queen Krystal Maynard.

Drainer arrives with a lo-fi music video primed for rage screenings, shot on a camcorder by fellow musician, producer, and videographer Grace Stevenson (Rebel Yell / 100%) in Melbourne. Focusing on the emotional drainers in life, Drainer is relatable and punky even with its synths.

“In the clip, we’re really trying to communicate a sense of frustration but with a lighthearted approach, highlighting a few of the everyday things that can happen in your day-to-day to put you in a shitty mood,” Maynard said in a press release.

“It’s not a literal interpretation of the song’s lyrics, but more about capturing a mood; the live set at the end is the cathartic release where the band gets to shake off all that draining energy.”

Decent Shapes follows screensaver’s 2021 debut album, Expressions Of Interest, as well as a double A-side 7-inch single Clean Current/Repeats, and saw the band reunite with recording engineer Julian Cue (CIVICGut HealthBitumen) for a ten-track “sonic excursion through an atmospheric soundstage, humming and mutating as a palette of angular guitars, dark synth, and electronic experimentation distils into a moody, textural potion,” per a press release.
