"Without urgent financial assistance from the NSW Government, we will soon see many of our live music venues forced to permanently close."

Representatives from the Save Our Stages NSW campaign are set to meet with Government to discuss a possible rescue package for live music venues around the state which have suffered during the COVID pandemic.

Following yesterday’s NSW Legislative Assembly debate of the Save Our Stages NSW ePetition, which has received over 28,000 signatures and seen 6,600 letters sent to local MP's raising the subject, Government has agreed to meet with representatives with a date yet to be announced.

Member for Sydney, Alex Greenwich,  Member for Swansea, Yasmin Catley and Member for Newtown, Jenny Leong, all spoke at yesterday's debate.

"Without urgent financial assistance from the NSW Government, we will soon see many of our live music venues forced to permanently close and with them, thousands of jobs will be lost," Save Our Stages said in a statement given to The Music today.

"This will not only be devastating for the music industry, but also our Night Time Economy, regional and metropolitan communities and the wellbeing of NSW residents.

"We now stand by for further urgent discussions with the government and are hopeful for a rescue package to be provided soon to help save our stages before it’s too late."
