Samuel Johnson Cast As Molly Meldrum In New Biopic

Local actor Samuel Johnson has been cast to play Molly Meldrum in an upcoming television mini-series about the Aus music industry legend's life.

Johnson, perhaps best known for his role of Evan Wylde in acclaimed Aussie show The Secret Life Of Us, will play Meldrum in the Channel 7 series MOLLY, which has begun filming in Melbourne. Johnson has appeared in a number of tv shows, theatre productions and films over the years, including Crackerjack, Underbelly: A Tale Of Two Cities and Rush.

Of the casting, Meldrum said: "I really cannot think of anyone else who could even try to play me. Sam is perfect and I cannot wait to see him in action. Good luck Sam!"

Michael Gudinski and Mark Morrissey are executive producers on the show, while John Molloy is also billed as a producer. MOLLY is being directed by Kevin Carlin and was written by Liz Doran and Matt Cameron. There has been no word on when the series will air as yet.
