Alex Lifeson, guitarist of iconic prog rockers Rush has opened up recently about the band’s pending nineteenth studio album.
Speaking to Musicradar.com, Lifeson discussed elements of ‘Clockwork Angels’, which is slated for release next year. The guitarist talks about the decision to break up recording time with a current tour.
“Our decision to go on tour during an album project…I don't know, we just thought it'd be kind of cool. Plus, there's nothing that gets your playing chops together like being on tour. We wanted a break in the routine, and I think we didn't want to just sit in a studio and feel burdened with coming up with an hour's worth of music at one time,” Lifeson said.
Furthermore, he goes on to state the new material is purely about writing the best music possible. “We don't feel as though we have to prove anything. We just want to write great songs.”
‘Clockwork Angels’ is currently being co-produced by Nick Raskulinecz, whose recent credentials include Deftones' ‘Diamond Eyes’ and Stone Sour’s ‘Audio Secrecy’.
The album’s first single, ‘Caravan’ was released in June and can be previewed and purchased in Mp3 format here.
