Romanie Plots 2026 Australian Tour - With A Twist

“The touring concept is something I’ve been wanting to launch for years,” Romanie shared with The Music.

Melbourne-via-Belgium artist Romanie has just announced an expansive national tour, kicking off this month and running into November. But the announcement comes with a twist.

Romanie will host a talented roster of special guests across her shows, including Red Hill (Brisbane), Hassall (Geelong), Angie Colman (Perth), Bonniesongs (Sydney), Human Noise (Beechworth), Oscar The Wild (Adelaide), Clover Blue (Castlemaine), and Chitra (Melbourne).

And at each show, Romanie and her chosen special guest will perform a song they just wrote together. With the tour, she aims to make something with others.

The day before each gig, Romanie will be writing a brand-new song with her local support acts. At the gig, they’ll perform it for the very first time during the special guest’s set. She’s aiming to capture the spirit of vulnerability, community and the joy of creation without striving for perfection.

After the support act’s performance, Romanie will then take to the stage with her band and perform songs from her latest album, the Australian Music Prize-nominated It’s Not That Funny, an emotionally forthcoming and ambitious record.

“The touring concept is something I’ve been wanting to launch for years,” Romanie shared with The Music. “The idea actually formed a couple of years ago, when I did a residency in Naarm at The Wesley Anne where I had a different guest every week and brought them into the studio during the day to write a song or learn covers; and we then showcased it during the evening.

“It’s all about community and togetherness for me, and I think co-writing with other people brings you an instant connection and friendship. Because the album talks so much about isolation and loneliness and inner demons, I thought it would be the perfect antidote to launch this idea properly when promoting the album.”

Romanie added that, during her appearance at this year’s Brunswick Music Festival, she trialled the concept for the first time, writing a song with Clover Blue. The resulting song was Cameron Winter Eats Pigeons.

She continued, “I think the shows will be super special, not only because we get to tour the album with my band to places I’ve never even been before; but especially because I’m excited to be vulnerable with the local supports and audiences by inviting everyone into our space.”

But Romanie also wants punters to come along and attend the shows early to watch the support acts.

“The idea also came from the want for people to rock up to shows early and watch the support, because everyone puts so much time and care in pairing and creating a show - I’m such a huge fan of all the acts that are playing with us and the fact that we’re sharing the song at the end of the support set will hopefully mean that people come early and stay late - the full experience,” she explained.

“With AI rising and people living such an individual life, I hope that this tour can bring connection between people and really bring a sense of community around the country.”

Romanie concluded by saying that she hopes to release a deluxe edition of It’s Not That Funny with the songs that are born from the tour.

“My dream is to release a deluxe album of ‘It’s Not That Funny’ that will include these songs, but I hope I win the lottery with endless money for that to happen (manifesting this on paper for me),” she said. “I’ve put my whole heart into this album and shows, and I hope everyone will come and bring a friend - and that everyone becomes friends at the show.”

Following its release in February, It’s Not That Funny landed at #14 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart and has since been nominated for the prestigious Australian Music Prize.

Featuring the singles Uh Oh, When Will We Lose Hope, I Won’t Yell, and the focus track, Falling, it’s a record that plays with concepts such as chaos vs calm, anguish vs optimism, and having the will to keep moving forward.
