But you can't really blame him, all things considered

Infamous shock-rock legend Rob Zombie has offered an explanation for his exceedingly short set at Wisconsin's RockFest at the weekend — medically speaking, he was suffering from an unmanageably "fucked voice", and he's got a sweet close-up pic of his tonsils to prove it.

In an irritated-sounding yet overtly apologetic post on Facebook, the House Of 1000 Corpses writer/co-director revealed the RockFest incident marked the first such time in nearly 30 years of performing he has been unable to complete a show, and goes on to take a couple of justified shots at those commentators who were so quick to abuse and condemn the performer following his abrupt cancellation.

"I am very sorry to everyone who was at RockFest," Zombie began. "Believe it or not this is the first time in 29 years I have not been able to finish a show. I have played through many many nights with a fucked voice. I knew it backstage but came out and tried anyway, but failed.

"I understand people are pissed, but what can you do? It is easy to say "man up and just do it" but when no sound is coming out there is nothing you can do. If you have ever lost your voice before, then you know it doesn't magically return just because you want it to. If there was a way to do the show I would have done it, as I have many, many times before. Fuck, I done shows where I walked to the side of the stage between songs to vomit I was so sick. Whatever. I'm not looking for sympathy and I don't expect anyone [to] care but these are the facts."

Asserting that the show was just as unenjoyable for him as it was for any disappointed fans — "Do you think their [sic] was any upside to that show for me? Nope, it's all a big fucking mess that I wish never happened," Zombie wrote — the veteran rocker explains rescheduled shows are in the works and that, contrary to what some folks were evidently saying in the wake of his 10-minute RockFest appearance, he is still earnestly appreciative of his fans and their ongoing support.

"I don't take the fans for granted and I don't take this situation lightly," Zombie concluded. "My goal is to never let the fans down, but on that night I did.

"Unfortunately I had no choice."
