Rihanna has released her first new song in three years, Friend Of Mine, from the forthcoming Paramount Pictures film, Smurfs.
The singer and beauty mogul hasn’t just released a song for the film; she will also voice the character of Smurfette. Friend Of Mine, a club banger, will feature on the Smurfs soundtrack, which is set for release on Friday, 13 June, via Roc Nation Entertainment. The movie will land in cinemas on Friday, 18 July.
Friend Of Mine is the second song to be released from the forthcoming soundtrack album, following Higher Love by Desi Trill, DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi.
Rihanna isn’t the only big name attached to the film. She’ll be joined by a voice cast that includes Kurt Russell, James Corden, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Daniel Levy, and many others.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Rihanna opened up about her long-awaited ninth album—the follow-up to 2016’s ANTI—revealing that she’d come to a breakthrough.
“I think music is my freedom; I just came to that realisation,” she told the publication. “I just cracked the code on what I really want to do for my next body of work. I am actually feeling really good about this. I know I kept saying this over the years.”
She continued, “[I’m] feeling really optimistic. This feels right. It feels like it digs right into where I need to be, and I want this. This body needs to come out, and I’m ready to go there. This is becoming my new freedom, because when I’m in the studio, I know that my time away from my kids is to blossom something that hasn’t been watered in eight years.”
Earlier this month, Rihanna revealed she was pregnant with her third child at the Met Gala. She and partner A$AP Rocky have two children, RZA, born in 2022, and Riot, born in 2023. She revealed her pregnancy with Riot when she headlined the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
