Respected Melbourne Musician Passes Away

RIP, Andrew Carswell.

Renowned Melbourne musician and former mandolinist for My Friend The Chocolate CakeAndrew Carswell, has tragically passed away over the weekend. 

The band confirmed the news in a Facebook post today. 

"Our founding My Friend the Chocolate Cake member, (mandolin- tin whistle), Andrew Carswell, passed away on the weekend," the statement reads. 

"We are all very sad -he of the sublime and haunting melody, the witty and astute asides, the man who would never guess, he'd just go straight to the heart of the matter-one of the best people you'd ever care to meet..."

The cause of Carswell's death is yet to be publicly confirmed.

With MFTCC, Carswell won two ARIA Awards in the Best Adult Contemporary Album category for Brood (1995) and Good Luck (1997). 

Though he left MFTCC in 2010, Carswell joined Americana outfit The Stetson Family in 2008 and remained in the band until his untimely passing. 

The Music has reached out to The Stetson Family's management for further comment.
