Thanks for everything!

There’s few images as iconic to the Star Wars universe as R2-D2, the creator of which, Tony Dyson, has passed away aged 68.

As BBC reports, the British robotics professor was found dead at his home on the Maltese island of Gozo after a concerned neighbour made a call to the police.

While no cause of death has been released, it is believed Dyson passed away from natural cases.

Tyson built the first R2-D2 in 1977 for the very first Star Wars film, A New Hope, alongside designer and illustrator Ralph McQuarrie and special effects artist John Stears. Actor Kenny Baker wore it.
