Just days after Sydneysiders took to the streets to protest the city's lockout laws, Queensland residents are following suit as rally groups are set to come together this week to fight the State Government's plan to introduce a statewide 1:00am venue lockout and 3:00am cessation of drink service.
The group known as No Curfew will host three coordinated assemblies this Saturday in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast and Airlie Beach which will include speeches and performances from industry workers, musicians and politicians.
Speaking in a prepared statement, rally spokesperson Alex Ghiculescu said trial data has proven that the state does not need the controversial laws introduced.
"According to the Government DrinkSafe trial data 99.9% of Queenslanders enjoy a night out without either committing crime, or becoming a victim of crime," Ghiculescu said.
"The State Government's proposal is set to punish the majority of late night venue patrons, who do abide by the law."
"We want to celebrate our nightlife, and stand up for the Queensland community, young and old, who enjoy a night out, and those who have built their careers around this important part of our local fabric."
A parliamentary petition will also be launched at all three rallies this Saturday.
