"For significant service to the music recording industry, and to charitable initiatives."
L-R: Darren Hayes, Guy Sebastian
Renowned Aussie musicians Darren Hayes and Guy Sebastian have been named on the annual Queen's Birthday honours list, which this year included more than 1,000 individuals.
As SBS reports, the list included a former prime minister, actors, journalists, politicians, local leaders and sporting heroes, and has the highest percentage of women ever included in the award list: 40% of recipients.
Sebastian will become a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) "for significant service to the music recording industry, and to charitable initiatives".
Hayes will be awarded the OAM "for service to music as a songwriter and performer".
Other industry inclusions of note include musician Bernard Carney (OAM), former managing director of Mushroom Music Publishing Ian James (OAM), Premier Artists' Frank Stivala (OAM), former CEO of Albert Music Fifa Riccobono (AM) and manager Peter Rix (AM).
They join a wide-ranging list of Australians on the honours list, which this year also includes award-winning actors Hugh Jackman (AC) and Eric Bana (AM), former prime minster Kevin Rudd (AC), founding editor of Cleo and now ABC chair Ita Buttrose and rugby league legend Jonathan Thurston (AM).
