They gave Leonardo the brush and said “Paint!”, they sat Mozart in front of a piano and demanded “Play!”, so when “Book!” was hollered down the hallways of Purple Sneakers HQ – we had to create a masterpiece. Live music has been a long time coming for Purple Sneakers Canberra and we present it to you in the form of our new club night FRESH PRINCE, launching August 13th at Transit Bar.
In christening the newest of our Purple Sneakers babies, we could only invite the creamiest of the Australian indie crop to provide the tunes. Our good friends DEEP SEA ARCADE will be splashing the holy water on Saturday the 13th as they take the Transit Bar stage. From humble beginnings in the corners of over-crowded Surry Hills pubs, DSA have carved their place deep in the Australian indie rock landscape and we couldn’t be happier to have in our holy room of party.
Remembering that masterpieces should bring a smile to your face and a spring to your step, we’ve enlisted Canberra locals FUN MACHINE to inspire our church of disbelievers. Their jazz inspired vocals layered with rock’n’roll riffs are a perfect way to open this Saturday mass and have the pews singing ‘Hallelujah’.
This sort of celebration always calls for some late night shenanigans; and instead of some stale sandwiches, an urn with some instant coffee and a wet kiss from your grandmother, we’ve gone all out. Old hand at all things Purple Sneakers, we have the pontifus maximus M.I.T (SYD) himself to serve his sermon of party, with Canberra residents PRINCI, ARCHITECT DJS and CELEBRITY SEX TAPE pocketing all scotch fingers and spiking the church punch.
