Beloved communal singing venture Pub Choir have raised a whopping $161,000 for charity following their epic singalong to Love Is In The Air by Aussie music John Paul Young at Brisbane/Meanjin’s Riverstage on Dec. 14.

In a video posted to Pub Choir’s social media accounts, the crowd got into the spirit as they collectively belted out the legendary 1977 track. In the clip, it is then revealed that an eye-watering $161,000 had been raised for Women's Legal Service Queensland thanks to the event and its guests.

“Music is magic. Love is real. Every voice matters,” Pub Choir wrote on Tuesday (Dec. 19) alongside the epic video. “We hope we did you proud John Paul Young! Thank you, Brisbane. And thank you Women's Legal Service Queensland for everything you do.”

As per their website, Pub Choir is “a euphoric sensation that transforms a crowd of tipsy strangers into a legendary choir” by way of “a show that is equal parts music, comedy, and beer”.

Their next show is set to take place on March 19 at Festival Hall in Melbourne/Naarm. You can nab tickets here.

Back in August, Pub Choir shared yet another ambitious and impressive effort: a cover of Toto’s 1982 classic Africa sung by more than 18,000 strangers between 15 cities.

The mega-cover was performed across the duration of Pup Choir’s recent national tour, where they united theatres full of strangers in Adelaide (Tarndanya), Darwin (Garramilla), Melbourne (Naarm), Brisbane (Meanjin), Sydney (Gadigal country), Cairns (Gimuy), Rockhampton (Darumbal country), Townsville (Bindal and Wulgurukaba country), the Gold Coast (Kombumerri country), Ballarat (Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung country), Hobart (nipaluna), Caloundra (Gubbi Gubbi country), Canberra (Ngunnawal country), Wollongong (Dharawal country) and Perth (Boorloo) to sing along with them.

All in all, the effort brought together a total of 18,812 singers, backed by a cumulative 37 musical guests. As the international choir group wrote on Facebook: “How good is it when people work together?!?”
