More Fetty Wap More Fetty Wap

US rapper Fetty Wap has inadvertently landed his old high school in hot water after filming the video for his new single, Wake Up, on premises, resulting in the principal of the school being suspended by the district.

As NME reportsWake Up's clip was filmed at East Side High School in Paterson, New Jersey, with the blessing of principal Zatiti Moody but, while Fetty Wap (who dropped out of the school in the 2000s) has defended the video as message of inspiration to local students, its content — from hallway banners that read "Go Team Kush!" and the presence of a stripper to grammar lessons on the difference between getting "Wiz Khalifa-high" and getting "Wiz Khalifa high" — has raised a few eyebrows among parents and board members. The fact it was released on April 20 (aka 4/20) probably doesn't help Fetty Wap's case.

It certainly didn't help Moody, who was placed on administrative leave, although officially for allegedly not following proper procedures in granting Fetty Wap filming access to the grounds as opposed to any objectionable content. However, Paterson district education spokesman Terry Corallo told NME that the district "does not endorse the content" of the video (and is presently investigating it), while School governor Kenneth Simmons told the mag that he was "proud" of Fetty Wap's achievements, but "as a parent and school board member, I think the video sends out the wrong message".

"To me, it glorifies dropping out of school and getting high," he said.

Nonetheless, Fetty Wap is sticking to his guns on this one, telling NME: "I went back to my old high school because I love my city. I wanted to show the students of Paterson that someone who walked those same hallways they walk every day and sat in the same classrooms shown in the video has become successful. If I can do it, they can do it too."
