Prince Unveils Dates & Details For 2016 Aussie Tour

IT'S HAPPENING

More Prince More Prince

Iconic performer Prince has followed yesterday's surprise announcement that he would this year be making his way to Australia for his first visit to the country since 2012 with the revelation of dates and details for the forthcoming sojourn, dubbed the Piano & A Microphone tour.

The man isn't leaving much in the way of lead-up time, either, with the first performances (yep, that's an intentional plural) of the tour going down at Melbourne's State Theatre on Tuesday 16 February.

He'll follow that up with another dual performance — in fact, every date on the run encompasses two shows a pop — at the same venue the next evening, Wednesday 17 February, before taking the two-performance spectacle to Sydney's Opera House on Saturday 20 February and the city's State Theatre on Sunday 21 February.

That marks the end of Prince's Australian leg (sorry, Brissy and Perth and, well, everyone else), but if you're super-keen you could always follow the crew across the ditch (on the Purple One's inaugural visit to New Zealand, no less) — Prince has two performances lined up at Auckland's ASB Theatre on Wednesday 24 February.

Naturally, this wouldn't be a Prince shindig if there wasn't some song and dance around the whole thing — in this case, don't plan on jumping online and trying to buy a million tickets for you and your friends; fans will be limited to two tickets, available for collection from noon on the day of their relevant show, with photo ID requirements and wristbands also being added to the mix — all precautions in an apparent effort to curb the risk of scalping.

Tickets for Prince's Aussie shows go on sale from noon (AEDT) this Tuesday (9 February), with Kiwis able to grab passes for the Auckland show from noon (NZDT) on Thursday.

Vendors and prices are yet to be revealed.
