Popular Melbourne Venues Damaged In Overnight Fire

"The fire was contained to the small laneway waste area."

A fire has ravaged popular Melbourne venues Bar Idda and The Alderman in Brunswick East overnight.

Firefighters were called to Lygon St early in the morning following reports of a blaze, with occupants of a nearby property forced to evacuate.

The blaze was brought under control in 25 minutes and evacuees were able to safely return home.

Speaking to theMusic, owner of The Alderman Lisa Young said they “were still trying to ascertain the extent of the damage,” but believed the fire had “come from Bar Idda”.

A spokesperson for Bar Idda said “the fire was contained to the small laneway waste area, with a small amount of damage to the beer garden”.

“We are closed tonight but hoping to be open again tomorrow evening (at the earliest).”

In a media release statement, the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade said “the cause of the fire is unknown and MFB Fire Investigators will attend”.
