Popular Melbourne Bar To Reopen After Fire

“It was gut-wrenching to see all our hard work disappear."

South Melbourne pub The Albion will reopen its doors next month following a devastating arson attack two years ago.

The 2015 blaze occurred right before owners were preparing to unveil exciting renovations on the venue formerly known as The Motel and The Roxy.

The grand reopening next month comes with an upgraded sound system for DJs and a 5am licence on weekends. The new-look venue has also expanded its offerings by adding a kitchen.

“It was gut-wrenching to see all our hard work disappear so close to completion but we got to work fast and with the help of our incredible team we’re proud to say The Albion is back,” ex-Collingwood football player and The Albion co-owner Dane Swan said.

As a reminder of that effort, they’ve left a section of the original damaged wall on display.

Co-owner Matt Darcy added: “We wanted to create an all-inclusive lifestyle venue, a place where patrons can come for the food and stay for the nightlife.”

The Albion will reopen on Saturday 10 February.
