Police Catch Thief Stealing From Festival Goers At WOMAD

Stolen property returned

South Australian police have successfully apprehended a man who was allegedly stealing items from backpacks at the WOMADelaide Festival early this morning.

One the biggest cultural events on Adelaide’s calendar, police observed a man acting suspiciously rummaging through a backpack at about 1am. They allegedly then observed him picking up another bag and blanket and walk away.

They approached a 38-year-old man from Tanunda who was arrested and charged with two counts of theft. He has been banned from the event for 72 hours – which by then will have wrapped up.

The stolen property was returned to the rightful owners.

Running from Friday, WOMADelaide will finish tonight with a set from Sinead O’Connor in Adelaide’s Botanic Park.
