The Pogues' Bassist Darryl Hunt Has Passed Away
"We are saddened beyond words. Our Darryl passed away yesterday afternoon in London.”
Darryl Hunt, the bassist for the legendary rock/Celtic-punk band The Pogues has died. The band confirmed the news of the 72-year-old's passing via social media today, releasing a statement reading "We are saddened beyond words. Our Darryl passed away yesterday afternoon in London.” The tribute post also featured a black and white photo of Hunt and referenced key lyrics from The Pogues' Hunt-penned track Love You Till The End.
Singer Shane MacGowan paid tribute to his longtime bandmate and friend stating "I am very very sorry that Darryl has passed on, he was a really nice guy and a great friend and a great bass player. We will all miss him. May he have a happy state of eternal bliss and bless his family and friends love Shane"

A musician and songwriter, Hunt's work with The Pogues since joining in 1986 included their celebrated 1988 full-length If I Should Fall From Grace with God, home to their most recognisable tune, Fairytale Of New York.
Hunt remained with the band until their final album Pogue Mahone in 1996 and leaves behind a legacy of musical and songwriting contributions that are etched into the musical history of both genre and country.
One of the most influential bands in the Celtic-punk, folk-punk and rock scenes, The Pogues are seen as the primary force of the popularisation of the Celtic-punk sound. The band last toured Australia in 2012.
