PNAU To Headline PrideFest WA, Announce Australian Tour

Australian festival favourites and electronic music pioneers PNAU will return home this November and December, headlining Perth’s PrideFest and playing shows across the country.

Touring off the back of their impressive sixth album Hyperbolic, the duo—Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes—will start the tour at PrideFest on Friday, 22 November, before heading to Sydney’s Dee Why RSL (Thursday, 28 November), a DJ set at Drifters on the Central Coast (Friday, 29 November), and at Wollongong’s Waves on Saturday, 30 November.

The December dates begin at St Kilda’s Riviera Beach Club on Sunday, 1 December, before continuing at the Sunshine Coast’s The Station (Thursday, 5 December) and ending the tour at the Gold Coast’s Miami Marketta on Saturday, 7 December.

In a statement, the duo said of their forthcoming tour, “We are so excited to return to Australia this summer and play PrideFest for the very first time. We’ve played Sydney’s Mardi Gras before, and it was one of the best shows of our career, so we can’t wait to experience the energy of PrideFest. We can’t wait to dance with you all.”

PNAU released their first album since 2017’s Changa earlier this year.

Much has occurred since Changa. In 2021, PNAU enjoyed a megahit with Cold Heart, Elton John’s postmodern lockdown collab with Dua Lipa. The mash-up entered the US Top Ten, and John performed Cold Heart at Glastonbury without Lipa. She also performs the track at her shows.

Cold Heart brought PNAU some bonkers opportunities. They reimagined Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds as Don't Fly Away for Baz Luhrmann's ELVIS soundtrack. They remixed Diana Ross's improbable Minions song Turn Up The Sunshine with Tame Impala, plus Sophie Ellis-Bextor's enduring 2000s bop Murder On The Dancefloor.

Like The Avalanches, PNAU have achieved mythic longevity. Popstardom may be transitory, but dance music is cross-generational. Still, for the Aussies to cross over globally—decades on, nonetheless—is unusual.
