Press Release:
Places And Numbers, the solo project of Gatsbys American Dream guitarist Bobby Darling, will digitally release his debut full-length album on June 21st. The album, entitled Travels, will be available just in time for his two week run on the 2011 Vans Warped Tour.
Places And Numbers offers a welcoming blend of reverb-drenched effects and engaging vocals. While many of his vocals are shaded with more-than-subtle hints of '80s new wave, the emotion that comes through retains a warm and inviting quality. At any given time, Darling can sound reminiscent of the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne ("I Had A Dream About A Nuclear Attack") to Ben Folds ("Waking The Dead") to Self's Matt Mahaffey ("Black Friday"). The album pulls musical influences from acts as diverse as The Postal Service, Talking Heads, The Strokes and Kanye West.
Travels was written and recorded while Darling was traveling throughout Italy with friend and producer Casey Bates [Portugal. The Man, Gatsbys American Dream, Chiodos]. It is the follow-up to two Places And Numbers' EPs, Waking The Dead and Notes From The Dead Zone.
