Pink Floyd's David Gilmour Raises Millions For Charity After Auctioning Famous Guitars

Pink Floyd's David Gilmour has reportedly broken "world auction records" after handing off a number of his famous guitars for climate change charity, ClientEarth. 

As Rolling Stone reports, the auction raised $US 21,490,750, with over 66 countries taking part.

Among the items auctioned off in New York yesterday included Gilmour's famous Black Strat guitar, which went for $US3,975,000 (after being estimated to go for $US100,000-$US150,000), while the UK musician's 1954 Fender Stratocaster used on Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 went for over $US1.8 million.

"I’m so blown away at how brilliantly well last night’s auction of my guitars went at Christie’s in New York," Gilmour said in a statement posted to Facebook today.

"And also, many, many thanks to everyone who bought a guitar, who bid, visited the exhibition or even bought a programme. A huge thank you to Christie's for the incredible job they've done. And thanks too to my long-term guitar tech, Phil Taylor, who has looked after these guitars so well for so many years."
