"I had nothing to say on Christmas day..."

More Phoebe Bridgers More Phoebe Bridgers

After covering Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Tom Waits' Day After Tomorrow, Merle Haggard's If We Make It Through December, 7 O’Clock News/Silent Night by Simon & Garfunkel, and McCarthy Trenching's Christmas Song, Phoebe Bridgers has returned this festive season with her annual Christmas cover: So Much Wine, the 2000 song by the Chicago folk duo, The Handsome Family.

Like her previous covers for the season, this one is also for charity. All proceeds from the cover go to the Los Angeles LGBTQ Centre, which focuses on assisting those struggling with substance abuse and people living with HIV. Learn more about the organisation here.

Bridgers sings, "I had nothing to say on Christmas day; there's only so much wine you can drink in one life," with sombre instrumentation setting the scene for her rendition. The Chinese Satellite singer co-produced the track alongside her collaborators Tony Burg and Ethan Gruska, bandmates Marshall Vore and Harrison Whitford, her partner Paul Mescal, and Andrew Bird.

Phoebe Bridgers just announced two Laneway Festival sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne. Aussie fans have been waiting ages to hear Punisher songs live, so the announcement that Bridgers will play a show at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on Monday, 6 February 2023 and Melbourne's Margaret Court Arena on Wednesday, 8 February 2023, will be eagerly welcomed. General public tickets go on sale today at 10 am local time.

The singer will perform at Laneway Festival alongside The Jungle Giants, Joji, Fred Again.., HAIM, Finneas, The Beths, Yard Act, Slowthai, Turnstile, 100 Gecs, Girl In Red, Sycco, Tasman Keith, and more. Find more details about the festival here

She also re-released another cover recently, but this one was with Maggie Rogers. The two singers sang the Goo Goo Dolls' classic, Iris, after Joe Biden won the US Presidential Election with all proceeds going to Democrat Stacey Abrams' voting protection program, Fair Fight. Bridgers and Rogers shared the cover again last month on Bandcamp for 24 hours, with proceeds this time being donated to the referral-based abortion needs organisation, The Brigid Alliance
