Perth Will Get Soundwave 2013

AJ Maddah has announced that the festival will be back in Perth next year despite local opposition.

It was a mere eight word tweet, but it's one that is going to make fans of heavy music in Perth very happy. This afternoon Soundwave Festival Director AJ Maddah (who we considered the sixth most powerful figure in Australian music) assured one punter that Soundwave would be taking place in Perth, though was able to provide scant details.

Jock Barker, Mayor of Claremont, has been on something of a campaign to prevent the festival from being held at the festival's usual home of Claremont Showground, despite the fact that the Royal Agricultural Society, who own the venue, seem very keen on having festivals back at their venue.

According to WA Today, Barker said that the impact the festivals have on the Claremont community is unacceptable and not getting any better back in March, complaining about the excessive volume and the “trashing” of the town.

While it's not yet known whether the event will be on Barker's territory in 2013, it's at least nice to know that Western Australia is going to get its fill of the nation's premier heavy music festival again next year.

As the man himself says, stay tuned!
