The WA festival scene this year is looking bleak, with North Perth event Angove Street Festival taking a step back and postponing the next run until 2017.
Organises behind the premier street event have decided to focus on smaller events in 2016, with chairperson Ida Smithwick stating they “need a well-earned break”.
“The vast scale of Angove Street Festival means that we need a well-earned break, but we will continue to deliver a number of smaller, community based events throughout the year,” Smithwick said in a statement.
“We spend most of our time trying to raise money, relying on grants from Lotterywest, City of Vincent and Bendigo Bank instead of focusing on building a stronger Community.”
The first in a series of community events, the Community Car Boot Sale, will be held Sunday 22 May.
Angove Street Festival’s decision to take a year off after six successful runs follows that of the massive Beaufort Street Festival, who last month announced they would be shutting down due to the event being too large to manage.
