Official Press Release:
At 25 Kenneth Vasoli has had more than his share of musical prowess displayed to the world after exhibiting his talents in two bands; The Starting Line and more recently Person L. Formed in 2006 after a hiatus with The Starting Line, Person L is a Philadelphia-based five-piece that allows Vasoli the opportunity to showcase his accomplished musical versatility in composition and performance under a different light. This side project is a mere way to release his eclectic musical taste that has developed over the years, without compromising his sound and established fan base.
The album, accurately titled The Positives, plays on Vasoli’s optimistic attitude towards the band and albums alike, hoping to reinforce the following of long-standing fans of The Starting Line, while allowing new fans to be introduced to the wonders that is Person L. The heartfelt, genuine meanings of confidence and awareness sustain themselves throughout the album, reflecting on the simple yet sophisticated lyrics that are heard from beginning to end. Combined with layers of melodic instrumentation and artistic flair, the band's sound is not self-contained within each individual song, but rather a flowing concept that re-interprets itself during each track.
The band's second album, due to be released in November, draws inspiration from artists such as Drive Like Jehu and Radiohead, and is a step away from the melodic pop-punk sound that The Starting Line has produced successfully for many years. We hear Person L explore sounds that cross the boundaries of progressive and experimental indie pop, comparable to the likes of Battles, Cursive and My Morning Jacket. The album has a unique sound conjured up by the personal musical tastes of each contributing member. ‘The Pleasure is All Mine’ is a blues and roots gem, whilst ‘Goodness Gracious’ helps bring out the “rocker child” hidden within all of us.
This unique sound is complimented by the notion of having two drummers playing throughout the entire album, which applies further grounding to the band's trademark of complex rhythms aiming to combine two separate styles and techniques, whilst still keeping the tracks cohesive and stable. Even Vasoli’s voice is interpreted in countless ways as he seems to take on a new persona during each song, seeming to mimic the blues and rock style of his influences.
