Paramore Are Releasing A New Single Next Week

The rumours are true. Paramore will release their first new song in five years next week.  The band confirmed the news of their impending return to recorded music with a simply worded message on social media stating "This Is Why", the song, Sept. 28.", accompanying the message with a photo of the three current members of the band, Hayley Williams, Zac Farro, Taylor York, with their faces squished up against a pane of glass.

The announcement of This Is Why means we are only a week away from discovering what the next evolution of the Paramore sound will deliver, following the 80s pop and indie vibes of previously full-length, 2017's After Laughter. The band are also back on the live touring circuit, with a select run of intimate shows in the US, quickly selling out for October and appearances locked in on the enormous emo-throwback festival When We Were Young. 

This Is Why is believed to be our first taste of the group's sixth studio album, which Williams had previously confirmed was recorded in January.

The return of Paramore follows a rather busy period for vocalist Hayley Williams, during which she launched a solo career, releasing two acclaimed and explorative solo records in the form of 2020's Petals For Armour and 2021's Flowers For Vases/Descansos.

Earlier this year, the vocalist released a podcast called Everything Is Emo, as a part of BBC's 'Back To Back' podcast series. Throughout the series, Williams discusses the origins of the 'emo' genre, running through tracks from the early 2000s to now. 

In a statement issued by Williams at the time of the podcast launch, Williams shared her thoughts on the project.

"Not long ago, people started calling me a “veteran” of my scene and of the music industry. It sounds so funny to me because most of the time I still feel like a fan. The serious truth is I have, in fact, grown up in this scene for the last two decades. I guess that’s a pretty long time. I’m really excited to have the opportunity to publicly nerd out about bands and songs that make my favourite subgenre feel like home to me. And while it will be fun to take some trips down memory lane, I’m just as excited, if not more, to play music from new artists I’m discovering all the time.

Everything Is Emo is meant to feel like a conversation with other fans of the genre, young and (ahem) old. There’s going to be plenty of interaction, which I hope will feel somewhat reminiscent of the message boards and forums I used to frequent as a teenage scene kid.

More than anything, I hope music fans and artists alike will be psyched to hear a highly considered spectrum of “EMO” in all its forms. And yeah, of course, you’ll hear some Paramore."
