Orbit DJ Retreats, Red Bull Australia and Sweat It Out have teamed up to offer an aspiring electronic music producer the opportunity to receive one-on-one industry mentoring at the upcoming Orbit DJ Retreat in Byron Bay.
To scope out the lucky winner, the retreat is introducing the Orbit DJ Retreats Scholarship facilitated by Red Bull Australia. The winner of the scholarship will secure a spot at the 5-day Orbit DJ Retreat where they will gain hands-on production experience, a one-on-one mentorship guided by some of the industry’s leading professionals, and the chance to pitch their music to Aussie dance music label Sweat It Out. All bases will be covered at the retreat, from DJing, music production, branding, career development, wellness and mindfulness practices.
Teasing mentoring from a very special unannounced guest, the retreat will feature an already monstrous lineup of talented mentors, including Charles Levine of Boston DJ-producer duo Soul Clap, Aussie music duo Yolana Be Cool, Orbit DJ Retreats Co-Founder Doorly, Byron’s own prolific electronic artist PARIS, GAWP of Toolroom/Dirtybird and Pioneer DJ Expert Mo’ Funk.
The full details of the winning scholarship package are as follows: a fully-funded stay at Orbit DJ Retreats, including accommodation, mentorship and production workshops, personalised mentoring sessions, the chance to pitch their winning track to Sweat It Out A&Rs for potential release consideration, and a performance slot at the retreat’s graduation showcase at Byron Bay Beach Hotel and Elsewhere Gold Coast.
"Sweat It Out has always been about championing fresh, innovative sounds. Partnering with Orbit DJ Retreats gives us the chance to hear new talent and potentially help launch an emerging artist’s career,” said A&R Director for Sweat It Out Matt Handley. “We’re looking for someone who brings a unique perspective to electronic music, and we can’t wait to see what comes through."
Orbit DJ Retreats has a history for helping artists break through in the music industry, with many alumni signing to labels such as Gorgon City’s REALM, Yousef’s Circus Recordings, and Damian Lazarus’ Rebellion. The retreat evidently has been used as a soundboard for emerging producers and DJs to build on their craft, refine and expand their networks, further accelerating their career.
“At Orbit DJ Retreats, our mission is to discover and nurture the next generation of talent,” said Doorly. “With Red Bull facilitating this scholarship and Sweat It Out providing the chance for artists to pitch their music, we’re offering an incredible opportunity for an emerging producer to take their career to the next level. We’re excited to hear what fresh talent comes through."
