The Syrian musician will play shows along the east coast.
After releasing over 500 studio and live albums (look out for them on cassette at market stalls the next time you're in Syria), Omar Souleyman finally started picking up some recognition outside of his homeland in the past couple of years.
The artist, who hails from rural Northeastern Syria, began playing in 1994 with a bunch of collaborators with whom he continues to play with today. His wild, high-octane take on the many musical traditions of Arabic, Kurdish and Turkish styles has seen him share stages with the likes of Ratatat, Hot Chip and Passion Pit and he's even collaborated with Björk herself!
He has already announced his return to Australia for the 2012 Meredith Music Festival, but he'll also perform a bunch of club dates while he is out here. Details are below.
Wednesday 5 December – The Hi-Fi, Melbourne
Thursday 6 December – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
Friday 7 December – Meredith Music Festival
Sunday 9 December – Brisbane Powerhouse
