Chart-toppers Of Monsters & Men insist they are a lot more than just a folk band, in a recent interview with The Drum Media.
The band, who are behind the massive hit Little Talks, said that their music is influenced from a range of genres including heavy rock and dance.
“We're not just a folky act,” co-lead singer/guitarist Ragnar Pórhallsson said.
“I think the band itself is a very big rock band in many ways,” drummer/percussionist Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson added, “I was playing drums for a pretty heavy rock band before I joined this band.”
Pórhallsson does agree however that a recent surge in folk-influenced bands, particularly the success of Mumford & Sons, has helped them reach a wider market.
“I guess there have been a couple of folky bands that have paved the way for us in America. I think it was maybe the right music at the right time for the American market. We try to be genuine and happy when we write the music and they just picked up on it.”
