NOFX Announce '40 Years Of F*ckin’ Up: Soundtrack + Score' To Accompany New Documentary

“When NOFX started to put together this documentary, we decided to release it to the world in the same way we’ve done everything in our career. Our way,” Fat Mike said.

American punk rockers NOFX have announced 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up: Soundtrack + Score to accompany their new documentary, 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up.

The documentary is currently playing in cinemas across the US. Celebrating four decades of music and legacy, the film premiered at this year’s SXSW Festival in March and will play at HOYTS cinemas across Australia this July and August – see the dates and cinema locations below.

The band will unveil an 11-song original score and a 15-song soundtrack as companion pieces to their acclaimed documentary. The former was composed by Fat Mike and collaborator Matt Nasir, performed with a full orchestra, showcasing NOFX songs as you’ve never heard them before.

The soundtrack is home to two previously unreleased singles: the title track and We Did It Our Way, the latter initially written as the final NOFX song to ever be performed. In addition to new material, fans will hear a handful of rare and unreleased recordings, such as demo recordings of Secret Society and On The Road, a cover of La Bamba, and live versions of Linoleum and NOFX.

40 Years of Fuckin’ Up is a film by NOFX, directed by James Buddy Day and stars Fat Mike, Aaron ‘El Hefe’ Abeyta, Eric Melvin and Erik Sandin [Smelly], all of whom also executive produced the film.

The soundtrack and score are set for release on Friday, 28 August – check out the tracklisting below and pre-order the record on vinyl and CD here.

“We made a documentary, but what’s happening in theatres feels bigger than that,” said James Buddy Day. “Every city has turned into this celebration of NOFX, punk rock, and the people who grew up with the band.”

After reflecting on some of the best moments of his life, including witnessing the first-ever showing of Star Wars, Fat Mike reminisced about the impact of NOFX.

“When NOFX started to put together this documentary, we decided to release it to the world in the same way we’ve done everything in our career. Our way,” he said. “We want our fans to congregate in cool movie theatres that have bars and not a lot of rules.

“We want showings of this film to be a celebration. We want it to feel like you’re going to a NOFX show. We want our fans to have a really good time together like they did when they would see us play live!”

Aaron ‘El Hefe’ Abeyta added, “Look, we’ve never done anything the ‘right’ way and making this film was no different. We went in DIY, the same way we’ve done everything for 40-plus years. No suits, no committee, just us figuring it out. We put everything into it. Blood, sweat, tears, probably some other stuff we won’t mention.

“We wanted to make something for the diehards who’ve been with us since day one, but also for the people who maybe never got to experience what this whole thing was. A proper send-off. A final stamp.

“And honestly, the response has floored me. I had no idea how deep our music ran with people all over the world. Seeing all that love come back to us as we close this chapter, it’s been incredible. Really humbling. And I don’t say that lightly.”
