"It has always been an incubator for talent with... artists going from our stage to the largest stages in the world."

Following news that the popular Gold Coast venue NightQuarter had been forced to shut down earlier this year, it has been announced the venue will be moving north to the Sunshine Coast to reopen.

As revealed in a press conference yesterday morning, the night market and entertainment destination will be moving from Helensvale to Birtinya in late 2019. The new venue will be adjacent to the Stockland Birtinya Shopping Centre.

“We are excited to be developing a NightQuarter concept for the Sunshine Coast community. The warm welcome from Stockland and local councillors has been heartwarming,” co-owner, Michelle Christoe, shared of the news.

“NightQuarter is a platform for entrepreneurship and creativity. It has always been an incubator for talent with many vendors going on to open restaurants and retail stores, and artists going from our stage to the largest stages in the world. The Sunshine Coast is alive with creativity, so the potential and the possibilities are endless. The space is a collaboration with the local community and we are excited to see how it evolves."

The closure of NightQuarter on the Gold Coast was seen as a massive blow to the local music scene which had been severely lacking a venue of its size. With a capacity of 2,000 people, since opening in November 2015 the Gold Coast venue had hosted acts including The Cat Empire, Amy Shark, SAFIA, The Living End, Dune Rats, DZ Deathrays, Simple Plan and many more.

The Angels' Dave Gleeson said playing the NightQuarter was "the best gig in Australia right now".

However Christoe is now looking forward to bring the space to Sunshine Coast musos.

“We have always been blown away by the talent on the Sunshine Coast. Acts like Bearfoot, The Floating Bridges, Highlife, Flaskas, Sametime, Dubarray, The Barleyshakes, the Unusual Suspects… the list goes on… these artists have already been a part of the NightQuarter journey and will create the best nights at NightQuarter Sunshine Coast,” she said.

“NightQuarter is the first stage for aspiring musicians, it is a place where grandparents, great-grandparents, parents and young siblings can all come together to watch them perform. We had the biggest artists in Australia inviting their grandmas to come and watch them perform at NightQuarter because it is such a family-friendly community environment.”

The venue will be open every Friday and Saturday from 4pm-10pm.
