"See you all soon for the Carnage experience!”
Since the release of Warren Ellis and Nick Cave’s cinematic album, Carnage, Australian fans have been persistent in their cry for more Australian dates after the unique shows at Hanging Rock sold out.
Luckily, their cries have been heard as a new run of gigs has been announced starting on November 22 and finishing up on December 17. This is the first time the pair have toured together as a duo and are attempting to hit all major cities around Australia including Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Canberra, Tamworth and a Melbourne city show in St Kilda.
Nick Cave said, “I can’t begin to tell you how happy Warren and I are to be finally returning to Australia to perform. The wait has been way too long. See you all soon for the Carnage experience!”
And an experience it is sure to be. Carnage is a far cry from the usual Bad Seeds sound. Indeed this is specifically a collaboration between Ellis and Cave, exploring heavier themes of love, loneliness, and loss, all of which Cave is very familiar with.
The project is said to be born out of their time working together both on a plethora of film scores, creating the larger than life sound that Bad Seed fans have been raving about.
The eight track album embodies a dark mystic feel, with simple production that bolsters romanticism rather than pessimism. Experimental would be the best way to describe it, with Cave and Ellis testing the boundaries of both their own creativity and the rock genre itself.
Reviews from the UK and US leg of the tour have been rolling out, with multiple reports that the show is a musical masterpiece that captivates and enamours. The Hollywood Times in Los Angeles stated that, “There is undeniable magic when they [Cave & Ellis] perform together.”
Exclusive fans of the Bad Seeds should also consider attending as it's rumoured that outside of the Carnage album, the set list for the shows include many of the songs that Cave and Ellis collaborated on while writing for the Bad Seeds. Either way, tickets are sure to sell out quickly to see these two legends in action.
