Week long celebrations are back
The Newtown Festival Week is back for its second year, with even more events, gigs, workshops and surprises celebrating the vibrant community that is inner-city suburb of Newtown.
The festival was always so big it really needed a full week in order to do it justice and, last year, the organisers, Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, decided to do just that - make the annual celebration a week long. And it worked so well that Newtown Festival Week is back for 2015, taking over the first week of November and with even more local venues, businesses and creatives coming on board.
Running with this year's theme, Newtopia, the Festival Week will feature events, gigs, workshops, specials and much more, courtesy of the neighbourhood's favourite establishments, among them Lights No Lycra, Earl's Juke Joint, Dendy, Better Read Than Dead, Newtown Social Club and The Bank Hotel.
The week will naturally culminate in the festival itself, which will again take over Camperdown Memorial Rest Park with its always rich mix of music, the arts, literary talent, family activities, eco workshops, grassroots creativity and community spirit. The Newtown Festival program will be announced shortly, so keep an eye on theGuide.
