triple j today has announced Blak Out, a new show on the station every Sunday from 5-6pm. Hosted by Yuin and Thunghutti man and rapper Nooky alongside alongside triple j Music Programmer and Weekend Lunch Presenter and Gamilaroi woman Karla Ranby, triple j’s Blak Out will feature the best and latest music from First Nations artists across all genres, plus interviews, premieres, and playlists.
In a press statement, Nooky highlighted the importance of the show on the station, "Blak Out is the FUBU of radio: For Us, By US. From old unk singing round the fire to the lil cuzzo spitting fire, this show serves more heat than nan’s curried sausages. Represent the present, remember the past, showcase the future!"
If that sentence isn't evidence enough, Nooky is a wizard with his words, highlighted by his strong rap and community focussed career so far. He's currently signed to Briggs Bad Apples label, a dancer with Muggera Cultural Enterprise and deservedly received the Australia Council's prestigious Dreaming Award in 2016.
To celebrate the occasion, triple j will be playing Indigenous artists only until 3:30pm on the 16th of June. The show will kick off this Sunday the 20th of June.
