Sydney selector MERPH (NECTAR) has today launched Apparent Motion, an initiative bringing together music and culture through fostering inclusive, accessible and safe spaces. The launch also comes with the announcement of the first in an ingoing series of workshops aimed at beginners.
This first workshop aims to facilitate an open discussion surrounding both the history and context of vinyl as a medium. It also aims to equip those keen with the knowledge and confidence to navigate a record store to its fullest - searching for music, handling and storing records and using turntables.
If you're someone who has had little to no experience with records or turntables, wants to learn the basics of handling and playing a record, wants to understand how to browse and navigate a record store or you're just simply wanting to know a bit more about records and turntables before investing, this is for you!
This is not a DJ or mixing workshop, simply a space to discuss and learn more about the medium and practices that surround it.

The workshop will be taking place on Monday the 1st of April over a number of sessions, so if you can't make it in the morning, there'll be sessions in the afternoon. It'll be taking place at Network Connection Records on King Street. All you've got to do to get in on one of these sessions is head to the Facebook event here to apply. Be sure to apply before midnight on Friday, March 29.
They're requesting $10 for the workshop which can be used as a discount if you would like to purchase a record at the end of the session. If you are unable to cover the full amount, you are still able to apply and can make note of that in the quick application process.
Check out the FB event here for more information.
