Inner-west picnic favourite Camperdown Memorial Rest Park is finally receiving long awaited and promised public toilet facilities.

The Inner West Council has finally announced the toilets will be installed by July this year, and will cost an expected half a million dollars.

No longer will park revellers need to sneak into a local pub or eatery to use a bathroom to relieve a period of drinking.

The toilet block at the park has been a four year process. In 2018 the Inner West council attempted to reduced anti-social behaviour at the park, which involved the construction of public toilets and other measures, and construction on the toilets was set to begin in 2019.

Last year, a petition began by Liz Atkins, a Greens candidate in the 2021 local elections.

The toilet block project is a part of the Parksafe program in collaboration with local police, Newtown Neighbourhood Centre and other community representatives. The design and location of the new amenities is aimed at improving overall safety and accessibility for all park users.
