The Weeknd makes history.
The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights continues to have success, this week being crowned the new #1 song on Billboard’s Greatest Songs Of All Time Hot 100 Chart.
After spending 90 weeks in the Hot 100 Chart, the Canadian singer dethrones Chubby Checker, who was awarded the honour in 1960 with The Twist.
Blinding Lights has spent four weeks at #1, 43 weeks in the Top 5, 57 weeks in the Top 10 and 86 weeks in the Top 40.
Speaking with Billboard about the achievement, The Weeknd noted: “By the time Blinding Lights happened, I was 10 years into my career and established as a music figure in the industry already.
“So I’m glad Blinding Lights happened when it happened as opposed to it being the first single I’ve ever dropped. That’d be scary for me.”
Despite previously calling out the Grammys and saying he wouldn’t allow his label to submit his music for nomination, The Weeknd has today scored three nominations.
