National Folk Festival Reveals First Acts For 2020 Line-up

"We are so excited to share this first look... "

The National Folk Festival has unveiled the first round of acts for its 2020 event, which is already shaping up to be one of its biggest yet.

Former Bellowhead frontman Jon Boden leads the first batch of names confirmed in what will be the UK songwriter's debut Australian visit.

“Our Artistic Director, Pam Merrigan, has worked tirelessly to bring the best and brightest in folk from all corners of the world to Canberra this Easter and securing Jon Boden is a real coup for the National," Managing Director Helen Roben said,

“Jon has become the stand-out performer of his generation and to have him perform exclusively for Australian audiences is a big win for folk fans!”

Other acts confirmed include fellow UK artist Fay Hield, US folk rockers The Mammals (on the back of a 12-year hiatus), Scotland quintet Elephant Sessions, Māmā Mihirangi & the Māreikura, Afro Moses, All Strings Attached, Bush Gothic and ARIA-nominated jazz-folk outfit Chaika.

“Folk is for everyone and the National Folk Festival really prides itself on delivering a diverse program that appeals to people from all backgrounds and ages,” Roben said.

“There’s a wonderful mix of international, Aussie and local acts across a full range of folk genres, as well as the opportunity to discover, share and engage in the full folk experience with arts, food, dance, poetry and more."

The 2020 National Folk Festival will take place at Canberra's Exhibition Park on the Easter long weekend (9-13 April).
