'COVID Has Thrown Us Another Challenge': How You Can Support The SA Music Scene

“The music industry has had such a tough year."

South Australia’s live music scene was thrown back into uncertainty earlier this week when the state announced a lockdown following an outbreak of COVID.

Venues were forced to shut immediately and gigs were cancelled, meaning bands, crews, venue staff and countless more individuals who help bring live music to punters were once again left without work.

Today, Music SA revealed more than 120 gigs across the state were cancelled as a result of the lockdown announcement.

“The music industry has had such a tough year; just when we thought things might be easing up a little, COVID-19 has reminded us that we need to continue to take it seriously and has thrown us another challenge,” Music SA General Manager Kim Roberts told The Music.

“A great way to show some support and help our community to recover is to stream lots of great local music and if you’re in a position to do so, buy music and band/venue/business merch online.

“Hopefully the current restrictions are short-lived, and we can go back to safely enjoying live music soon.”
