Mushroom Group is celebrating 50 years since its inception. There’s a good chance that your favourite artists, or your parents’ favourite artists, wouldn’t have the careers they’ve enjoyed without the legendary Australian music publisher and touring company.
Mushroom Group will hold various events throughout the year to celebrate this milestone, including a Mushroom 50 concert, a Michael Gudinski documentary, new recordings of iconic Mushroom Group singles, limited-edition merchandise and more to be announced soon.
The blockbuster Mushroom 50 concert is planned to take place in November, with the line-up, venue and ticket details to be revealed - however, we have been given the hint of an “all-star” roster of artists who will perform.
An essential feature documentary will premiere in cinemas across Australia later this year, exploring the late Michael Gudinski’s remarkable career and his impact on Australian music and culture. Expect more information on the film in the coming weeks.
But for those who can’t wait to enjoy this iconic milestone, you’re in luck. Throughout the year, the Group will also release a unique series of reimagined singles covering Mushroom classics from across the company's history.
Kicking off the series is one of Mushroom’s most successful bands and one of Australia’s biggest musical exports of the last 15 years: The Temper Trap. Today, they share their take on the 1988 ARIA Single Of The Year and top 30 Billboard hit in the US, Under The Milky Way by The Church, which you can hear below.
Missy Higgins, Bliss n Eso, and Australian icon Paul Kelly are other exciting names attached to the project, with more to be revealed soon.
“Mushroom Group’s legacy is something we’re extremely proud of, and we have big plans to commemorate it. So many amazing people and artists have formed part of our story, and this anniversary is about celebrating our history and future,” Matt Gudinski, the Mushroom Group Chief Executive, said in a statement.
Gudinski added, “The Mushroom 50 concert will feature a huge line-up of sensational artists, celebrating some of Australia’s most iconic songs - this will be a once-in-a-lifetime event.”
“We’ve teamed up with some of the best artists in the world to deliver these reimagined Mushroom hits. Each artist is bringing their own distinct sound and vision to their cover. I’m sure you’ll love them.”
