The pop-culture icons will stage individual shows as part of this June's event
Celebrated pop-culture icons Molly Ringwald and Harry Shearer have been announced as the headline acts for this year's Queensland Cabaret Festival in Brisbane this June.
Ringwald, beloved to millions for her role in cult-favourite flicks such as The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink, blends nostalgia and classic caberet in An Evening With Molly Ringwald, for which she will be accompanied by a three-piece jazz ensemble and take on tracks such as I'll Take Romance and The Very Thought Of You, as well as a nod to her '80s roots via a rendition of Don't You Forget About Me. Her show will take over the Powerhouse Theatre on Friday 3 June.
Soon after, the same venue will welcome the power pairing of Shearer and real-life partner Judith Owen, who will present their show This Infernal Racket on Sunday 12 June. Plentiful bouts of "laughter, music, compassion and cruelty" are promised as the duo draw on influences ranging from Richard Nixon to Charles Montgomery Burns himself in their attempts to find some semblance of sense in the world that surrounds us.
Early bird tickets for both shows will go on sale from 10am tomorrow, 8 March, until Monday 14 March. After that, from Tuesday 15 March, prices rise $10 to $79 (+$3 single-ticket/$6 multi-ticket booking fees). All tickets are available from the Brisbane Powerhouse on (07) 3358 8600 or via their website.
