'Molly' Actor Samuel Johnson Scores Gold Logie Nomination

The Molly Meldrum miniseries star, Samuel Johnson, has picked up a Gold Logie nomination for his outstanding portrayal of the revered music critic, while the show has also been recognised in a few more categories. 

Johnson's work in Molly not only earnt himself a spot in the Logies' biggest category of the night, but he also scored nominations in the Best Actor and Most Outstanding Actor categories. 

The Victorian actor will be in the running for the Gold Logie against the likes of Peter Helliar, Jessica Marais and Waleed Aly.

The news comes just months after Johnson publicly called out his sisters for trying to launch a campaign for him to clinch a Gold Logie nomination.

The Seven network-produced series has also been nominated for Best Drama Program and Most Outstanding Miniseries Or Telemovie.

Meanwhile, three shows featuring Aussie hip hop artist Briggs have been recognised in this year's event; ABC's Cleverman and Black Comedy, as well as The Weekly With Charlie Pickering.

The six-part sci-fi/drama grabbed a nomination in the Most Outstanding Drama Series category, while actress Deborah Mailman scored a Best Actress nod.

Fellow Cleverman stars Hunter Page-Lochard and Rob Collins both received nominations for the prestigious Graham Kennedy Award For Most Outstanding Newcomer as well as Most Outstanding Newcomer.

Collins is also up for Best New Talent.

Black Comedy has been recognised for Most Outstanding Comedy Program on the back of last year's second series, which Briggs co-wrote and starred in.

Finally, The Weekly With Charlie Pickering has been nominated for Most Outstanding Entertainment Program, as has Wil Anderson's Gruen.
